#beingHIPHOP – 10 Hip Hop Albums From My Come Up

By  |

Every artist is influenced by someone or something. And one place to start in the beginning of your creative journey, is by studying those in your field of interest whom you admire or are influenced by. When it came to me getting into and becoming Hip Hop, it was no different.

The real difference you’ll find and sure way to start a fire conversation by bringing it up, is stating your “Top 10…”. Top 10 Rappers (of All Time or Present). Top 10 Hip Hop Producers. Top 10 Hip Hop songs. And like this list you are reading, Top 10 albums. Now list isn’t meant to be my Top 10 Hip Hop albums list, but rather the 10 Hip Hop albums that influenced me from the time of becoming Hip Hop to now. Each album created a special bond with me and influenced me in different ways as a music artist, and more importantly as a person.

So without further ado, and in no particular order…I give you, the “10 Hip Hop Albums From My Come Up”

Just ran across your blog. Glad I did. I dig your top ten list. You should check out the stuff that Robert Glasper is doing with several of your (and my) favorite MCs. If you don’t know him, he’s a NYC-based jazz pianist/Rhodes/keyboardist with two groups…his straight-ahead jazz Trio and the future/jazz outfit Robert Glasper Experiment. Mos, Talib, Q-Tip, Kanye, Lupe and others frequently sit in with him. In fact, he’s got a gig coming up in Brooklyn with Talib. He just played Pittsburgh two weeks ago, but without any guests. Amazing. Check this out for a taste:
